Marco Janssen is known for confusing batters with his speed and accuracy. But he stood out with the bat as his quick knock helped Sunrisers Eastern Cape to a hard-fought two-wicket win over MI Cape Town in the 12th match. SA20 2023 Wednesday, 18 January at Newlands, Cape Town.

However, what really stood out during his counter-attacking game was when he smashed MI Cape Town captain and veteran leggie Rashid Khan for 28 runs in an over. It completely changed the complexion of the game and ultimately helped Sunrisers to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.

Marco Jansen unleashed his batting prowess and then the match turned on its head. The last five overs could have gone either way. Realizing the need for some quick wickets, MI Cape Town captain Rashid Khan ventured to bowl the 16th over, but Jansen ensured it was a failed move by talking his bat right from the word ‘go’.

Jansen first hit Rashid for a massive six to reduce him to 61 off 29 balls. The Proteas pacer showed fearless intent despite being far from the target and his side having already lost six wickets.

Rashid faces Jansen’s anger

As they say ‘Late is bold’, Marco Janssen was also rewarded for his bold batting approach. He got very lucky with the next ball which took the outside edge of his bat and went for four without a slip. In the third delivery, the batsman bravely marched down the track and succeeded in clearing the boundary and finding six more valuable runs.

The tail-ender showed no remorse and took the Afghan spin icon to the cleaners with two consecutive maximums to bring the equation down to 39 off 24 balls, forcing MI Cape Town skipper Rashid Khan to rethink his strategy.
