The Wall Street Journal reports that WWE Chairman Vince McMahon has reached a settlement with former referee Rita Chatterton who had long accused him of rape in 1986. He first brought the story to light in 1992.
Chatterton agreed to a “less amount” than what he wanted but expected to receive “millions of dollars,” according to several sources.
McMahon’s attorney, Jerry McDevitt, told the WSJ, “Mr. McMahon denies and has always denied raping Ms. Chatterton. And he settled the case to avoid litigation costs.”
WWE has not issued a public statement on the matter and Chatterton’s lawyer John Clune declined to comment.
