Sunrisers Eastern Cape and Joburg Super Kings lock horns in 17m its match SA20 2023 League at St. George’s Park in Gokberhar. Sunrisers were coming off three straight wins, and Super Kings, on the other hand, were at the bottom of the points table and desperately waiting for a win. Super Kings ended Sunrisers’ winning streak

After winning the toss, Joburg Super Kings captain Faf du Plessis opted to bowl first. Adam Rossington and Jordan Harman led the way for Sunrisers with the bat. Gerald Coetzee got Herrmann out in the third over, but Sarel Erwi was run out in the same over by du Plessis.

As a result, Sunrisers scored 45 runs in the Powerplay for the loss of two wickets in the same over. Rossington’s 31-ball 40, followed by cameos from John John Smuts and James Fuller, helped Sunrisers cross the 100-run mark on the scoreboard. But Super Kings bowlers Coetzee and Aaron Phangiso did well with four wickets apiece as Sunrisers collapsed to 127/10 in 18.4 overs.

Super Kings got off to a slow start in the chase as they lost their opening batsman Riza Hendricks early in the third over. But Faf du Plessis and Neil Brand took the first blow and put on a 45-run stand for the second wicket. Although it was a low target to chase, Sunrisers’ bowlers kept the opposition batsmen on edge and prevented them from getting runs.

They continued to take wickets at regular intervals as well, making it difficult for the Super Kings to capitalize on the momentum. Lews Du Pluy’s batting effort kept the Super Kings’ hopes alive as the game came down to the last two overs when the Men in Yellow needed 13 runs to win. Several games in the SA20 tournament ended in low-scoring thrillers and the clash between Sunrisers and Super Kings followed suit.

Romario Shepherd and du Ploy couldn’t take the big shots, but kept running between the wickets, which helped them reduce the winning equation to eight runs off the last six deliveries. Sisanda Magala did a great job restricting the batsmen, but Lews Du Ploy hit a four off the last delivery, which was later adjudged a no-ball, and the Super Kings secured a thrilling win.
