Royal Rumble 2023 & Raw is XXX Edition – Monday Morning Q&A

Welcome back to another Monday morning Q&A, where I throw out some questions to get a feel for how you guys and gals feel about certain topics.

So here are 5 questions I want to toss out for this week. I’ll give my answer too, but the point here is I want to know what you think! So make sure you chime in!

1) Which legends are you most looking forward to seeing on the 30th anniversary of Monday Night Raw?

Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker are two of my all-time favorites, so whenever you tell me they’re going to pop up, it’s hard for me not to rank them as the biggest draw.

To be perfectly honest, though, I don’t think it’s going to be a great show.

I’m expecting a more subdued presentation like we’ve seen before, where they don’t have a ton of people who can’t really do anything but pop up for a split second on the screen.

For example, I don’t think the 3-hour 30th anniversary of Raw is going to be good enough if it’s a series of clips and a simple backstage segment where a large group of legends just stand around until someone does something that provokes Ron. Simmons says “Sham!” And not much else. It would be a fun moment, but it’s not enough, and many past specials haven’t had much more than that.

We just saw D-Generation X, so they can’t do that again a few weeks later and make it feel special. I can’t expect to get physical with someone like Hulk Hogan or Ric Flair.

But I hope they pick some fun ways to use these superstars with the current crop. Let’s see if The Bella Twins, if they can fight, can go up against Dakota Kai and Io Skye. Put the Boogeyman in a scene with Dexter Loomis, if the Boogeyman is going to pop up. Maybe Jerry Lawler could host a King’s Court with Bianca Bellaire and Alexa Bliss so he can play these two instead of cutting promos on their own. Hell, get the honky tonk man in there to play with Elias!

2) What would you say is the biggest and/or best moment in Monday Night history so far?

Some that come to mind are Stone Cold with the Bear Truck, CM Punk’s Pipe Bomb, Invasion of WCW, “This Is Your Life” and Money in the Bank Cash-In, naturally.

But in my mind, it really comes down to two moments on almost equal ground.

The first would be Mike Tyson’s feud with Steve Austin. It was a media frenzy. The second—and the one I’d lean more toward, if I had to choose—would be mankind’s first title win. It put some butt in the seats and turned the tide of Monday night’s battle.

3) What are your predictions for Raw is XXX? Do you think there will be any big surprises or headline changes?

  • Becky Lynch defeated Bayley in a steel cage match after some legends (probably The Bella Twins) stopped an injured CTRL from interfering.
  • Austin Theory retains the United States Championship over Bobby Lashley, possibly with Brock Lesnar, Omos or someone else interfering to start a feud with The All Mighty.
  • The Usos to lose Raw Tag Team Championship to Judgment Day either due to interference from Kevin Owens and/or a screw-up from Sami Zayn.

4) What other matches do you think will be added to the Royal Rumble card? If so, what?

The only match I can imagine is Charlotte Flair vs. Sonya Deville for the SmackDown Women’s Championship. The Usos are already defending their Raw tag titles tonight and still don’t have a SmackDown challenger. Austin Theory also has his United States Championship match on Raw. Gunther is at the Royal Rumble, where the Intercontinental Championship match cancels the shoehorning there.

The Devil won’t be the favorite to win the Royal Rumble, but he’s a tough enough challenger to Flair on the card to fill that spot. Flair, meanwhile, probably shouldn’t be in the Royal Rumble match as champion. It just makes sense.

5) What is your biggest, most “out there” prediction for a potential Royal Rumble entrant this year?

As I mentioned this postWhich breaks my entire prediction of residual scars, I think we could be in store for this potential surprise:

  • Nick Aldis
  • Matt Cardona
  • Chelsea Green
  • Deona Purazzo

Safe bets are Edge, Beth Phoenix, Johnny Garagno (he’s injured after all), Randy Orton, Brock Lesnar and Logan Paul. Roderick Strong, Gable Steveson and John Cena are among others that are possible. At this point, I’m thinking The Rock doesn’t show up. I also highly doubt KG Muto. I’m not holding my breath for Tyson Fury.
