Rohit Sharma provides an update on Jasprit Bumrah’s availability for Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023

India’s premier fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah Been out of action for a while now. He suffered a back injury last year and is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.

Since suffering a back injury, Bumrah has not featured in any competitive games and missed both the Asia Cup and World T20 held last year. The 29-year-old was set to return against him in 2023 Sri Lanka In three ODIs, he withdrew from the series due to not being fully fit and not aggravating his injury.

After registering a dominant win The recently concluded third and final ODI against New ZealandIndian captain Rohit Sharma Bumrah’s return to the team was questioned. Rohit replied that he expected the right-arm pacer to return for the last two matches of the Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2023.

“Not too sure about Bumrah, I hope he plays the next (last) two Tests (against Australia). We don’t want to take any chances with him, because back injuries are always serious. Even after that we have a lot of cricket coming back.” Rohit said in the post-match presentation.

“We are in constant touch with physios and doctors at NCA. The medical team will give him as much time as possible.” she added.

According to reports, Bumrah still needs six weeks to fully recover and that is why he has not been included in the first two matches of BGT 2023. The Ahmedabad-born cricketer’s absence will surely be a concern for India as they need to win at least three of their four scheduled matches against the Aussies if they want to reach the final of the World Test Championship 2023.

Bumrah is likely to join the Indian squad for the final two Tests against Australia, but there is still uncertainty over his fitness.
