One of the most promising batsmen in the Indian cricket spectrum, Rishabh Pant He was seriously injured in a car accident on December 30. The severity of the injury was such that the wicket-keeper batsman had to undergo surgery. The situation rules him out for the entire Indian Premier League, and possibly, most of this year. However, the head coach of Delhi Capitals Ricky Ponting The wicket-keeper wants to bat around him for the entire 2023 edition of the T20 league.

Ponting admitted that Delhi Capitals are in the market for replacements but he also admitted that players like Pont “don’t grow on trees”.

“You can’t replace those guys, that’s simple. They don’t grow on trees, players like that. We have to look – and we already have – a replacement to come into the squad, a wicketkeeper-batsman,” Ponting said in the ICC review.

The former Australia captain said that he would prefer to keep Pant in the Delhi Capitals camp even if he is not fit to play.

“Even if he’s not physically fit enough to actually play, we still want to have him around. He’s kind of the cultural leader around the team, being the captain, and that attitude and infectious smile and laugh that we all have. Love him a lot. If he really travels can do and be around the team, but I want him sitting next to me in the dugout every day of the week. I’ll definitely make sure, when we get in mid-March. Together in Delhi and start our camp and stuff, if he’s able to be there, I’ll have him. Want full time,” said the legendary Aussie batter.

Pant’s return timeline is currently unclear. Seeing the cricketer play for India this year still seems like a distant dream.
