The PCB has sought an emergency meeting of the ACC board, which PCB chairman Najam Shetty has announced will be held next month.
“There has been no ACC board meeting for some time and many decisions have been taken and we have challenged one of them,” Sethi told a press conference. “The good news now is that we’ve managed to convince them to have a board meeting and I’ll be attending.”
Sethi returned to the PCB office last month after Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif removed Raja and his board to form a management committee to handle cricket affairs. Asked whether Pakistan would take an aggressive stand against the BCCI if India refused to come to Pakistan for the Asia Cup, Shetty said: “We have to see what we can do but we can’t. [fight] Another case, but I can say that that case was not handled properly and I think we did not put up a good fight. But finally, even the judges said that if you look through a microscope, this case is in favor of Pakistan but if you look at this case through a telescope, it is going in favor of India. So in short, it was Pakistan’s issue, but that was their position then [Indian] The government is not allowing us [to tour Pakistan]”
Pakistan-India relations have deteriorated over the years as a result of stormy political relations between the two countries. India and Pakistan have not played each other in a bilateral series since 2012–13, when Pakistan toured India for a limited-overs series. Their encounters have been limited to ICC and ACC events, and the Indian men’s team has not played a match in Pakistan since 2008, with Pakistan last visiting India for the 2016 T20 World Cup.
After years of isolation following the attack on the Sri Lankan team bus in Lahore in 2009, Pakistan has returned to hosting regular international cricket in the past three years, with almost all full members (except India) coming home for the red- and white-ball. Cricket. The 2022 Asia Cup (postponed from 2021) was originally supposed to be hosted by Pakistan, but the event was eventually hosted by Sri Lanka in the United Arab Emirates.
The PCB is intent on its position of hosting the 2023 Asia Cup, but Sethi was unwilling to divulge the options before the board.
“All the pending discussions and what the possible options are, I’m keeping close to my chest for now,” he said. “I don’t want to give any indication as to what my possible position will be there. Whatever the position is, it will be in Pakistan’s interest.”
