Joe Smith: Lightning GM BriseBois What they might be looking for at the trade deadline.

“Generally speaking, I’ll see what makes us a tough team to play against. Help defend + build a tough team to play against us. That’s probably as specific as I can get right now.”

TSN: The Lightning have no first and second round picks this year, and no first round picks next year GM Julien Brisbois said that without the assets to make a splash, they’ll look for one Nick Paul Type trade according to Pierre Lebrun.

“Remember, he got Paul at the deadline last year but I asked him one thing: “The Leafs and the Bruins, what if they make a big splash?”, but he said he won’t let them influence his thinking beforehand. Specific deadline.”

Lightning GM is on Brandon Hagel

Chris Crane: Tampa Bay Lighting forward Brandon Hagel will be an RFA after next season and is not yet eligible for a contract extension.

When GM Julien Brisebois was asked if they wanted to keep him long-term:

“I would hope so. I think because he’s a restricted free agent in the summer of ’24, he’s still two years away from unrestricted free agency. It’s time for us to work with him and find a solution to be able to keep him long-term. Granted, but we’ll deal with it at the right time. Right now, we’re focused on this season. Let’s make sure we don’t leave anything on the table this year. Let’s make sure we make the most of this opportunity and when it’s all said and done. Either way we have no regrets.
