Matthew Dumba, Scratch and Rumor
Michael Russo of the Athletic: The fact that Matthew Dumba was scratched twice is significant. Dean Evason expects more from Dumba. However, what is it? Better yet, can Dumba deliver that kind of quality play this time around?
He is not the only player not performing at his best. The defenseman’s slumping throughout the season wasn’t expected and there’s still been a noticeable regression. The past four seasons chart a course that has been anything but positive for Dumba.
Worse, the Wild blueliner misses more opportunities than most fans and pundits can count. Should Dumba only have 12 points in 43 games? That’s not a hard answer. There was a little hope last season that he started producing more like we’re used to.
Now, it seems a trade is becoming more and more inevitable. Even Bill Guerin hinted at Minnesota. This seems more and more likely.
Which teams could move for Matthew Dumba? That will be the interesting part. Even that side of the equation was unusually quiet.
Should Dallas consider Timo Meyer?
Saad Yusuf of Athletics: Now, watch the Dallas Stars Timo Mayer Firsthand and Meyer absolutely terrified the stars. Although Meyer only scored one power-play goal, his impact on the game was immeasurable.
So, even when Rupp Hintz Returning, Dallas needs another winger to complement its top-six. That remains the obvious. Meier costs a lot but one more year with the winger is that way. The Sharks forward fits most Championship windows.
Dallas possesses a better team in many ways than their 2020 playoff run. Can Jim Neal find a way to pull the trigger on a big contract that helps his top-six? The difference between competing and beating a rival team can depend on acquiring one player Timo Mayer.
