‘Might feel a bit old-fashioned’: Sanjay Manjrekar picks his favorite ODI batter of all time

Former cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has named Vivian Richards as his favorite ODI player of all time, surpassing two of India’s best batsmen, Sachin Tendulkar And Virat Kohli. Tendulkar is considered by many to be the greatest batsman of all time due to his record-breaking performances in ODIs and Test matches.

During his illustrious career, he scored 100 international centuries, and right now Kohli seems to be the only player who has a chance to duplicate the feat. To match Tendulkar’s total, the 34-year-old Tendulkar still needs 26 centuries.

Since his ODI debut, Kohli has consistently performed well with the bat, amassing 12,773 runs at an average of 57.79 and is among the top 5 ODI run scorers of all time. Tendulkar needs four more centuries to surpass Tendulkar’s record for most centuries in ODIs.

Manjrekar believes that Kohli is undoubtedly the best ODI batsman of the last 20 years, with Viv Richards still topping the all-time list.

“When you look at the modern era, the last 20 years or so, Virat Kohli has been there. Tendulkar is also considered one of the greatest of all time. According to me, Virat Kohli is only one day player. Another one that comes to mind is MS Dhoni. Sanjay Manjrekar told Star Sports.

“But there is no one close to Sir Vivian Richards, the all-time ODI batsman. Now, that might seem a little old-fashioned,” Added by Sanjay Manjrekar.

“Second-best by a long way in his era”: Sanjay Manjrekar

Manjrekar emphasized Richards’ playing record and said there was a significant gap between him and the second best performer of his time.

“Viv Richards played in the 70s to 90s at a time when all the top-class batsmen, guys like Gordon Greenidge, averaged in the 30s and strike rates in the 60s. Viv Richards, from 70s to 90s, including a World Cup final century, average 47 and strike rate 90. Second-best in his era was second-best by a long way,” Sanjay Manjrekar told Star Sports.

Kohli is currently with the Indian team for the three-match home ODI series against New Zealand. The host team won the series by 2-0 in Raipur on Saturday.
