Delhi Capitals The 15th edition of the Indian Premier League was not at their best. They stuttered at the crucial juncture of the competition and finished the league stage in fifth position with seven wins from 14 games. Despite a disappointing campaign, the team management backed most of their players to do well in the next season and parted ways with only five cricketers.
In the IPL 2023 auction, Delhi Capitals added the likes of Riley Rosso, Mukesh Kumar, Phil Salt, Ishant Sharma and Manish Pandey to their repertoire. While most of the signings were good, one could argue whether acquiring Rossouw was a smart move.
Delhi Capitals haven’t had many gun all-rounders in their ranks and hence, signing someone who only brings one skill set to the table may not be a wise decision. There were some quality all-rounders who went under the hammer in the auction and the Delhi franchise could have signed any of them.
Here are three players DC could have picked instead of Rilee Rossouw
3. Dasun Shanaka
Dasun Shanaka A proven performer in the T20 circuit. The 31-year-old has featured in 176 matches in the shortest format and has amassed 3649 runs at an impressive strike rate of 142.65. Also, the Negombo-born took 53 wickets at an economy of 8.72.
Shanaka also showed his all-round skills for Sri Lanka. The ace all-rounder played the role of finisher to perfection and scored 1328 runs at a strike rate of 121.83 in 85 T20Is. He has been a shrewd customer with the ball and claimed 23 scalps in that outing.
Shanaka, with the ability to contribute in both departments, brings balance. Therefore, Delhi Capitals, who did not have many seam-bowling all-rounders in their arsenal, could have acquired him in the IPL 2023 auction. But the team management did not take that route and opted to bat in the marquee event.
