IND vs NZ: “These mental scars will be on the players’ heads”: Sanjay Bangar

Sanjay Bangar believes India’s emphatic win over New Zealand in the second one-day international may have left an emotional scar on the minds of the visitors.

On Saturday 21st January, the Men in Blue bowled out the Black Caps for 108 runs after requesting a target. Then, with eight wickets and 179 deliveries to spare, Rohit Sharma and company took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

When asked about his views on New Zealand’s disastrous batting performance during a discussion on Star Sports, Sanjay Bangar responded as follows:

“If New Zealand plays a knockout match against India in an important event, this mental scar will be on the minds of the players, it will be almost impossible for the Indian team to win. Such victories have a long-term effect.”

Sanjay Bangar believes that Kiwis will be extremely unhappy if they find relatively familiar situations unpleasant, explaining: “They will be quite displeased as the sailors upset them and outed them. Seaming conditions are always talked about in New Zealand cricket, but to have such conditions in two consecutive matches is cause for concern.

“Most wickets have come on full-length deliveries”: Sanjay Bangar

Sanjay Bangar praised the Indian bowlers for pitching the ball high and not overusing short deliveries before giving his closing remarks. He explained:

“When they think about it, they notice how all the bowlers keep their length and use the short ball when needed. Most of the wickets have come on full-length deliveries, which I believe they’ve done really well and that’s what the bowlers need to do.”

Mohammad Shami’s spell of 3/18 in six overs earned him the Man of the Match award. Each of the other Indian bowlers contributed to his success with at least one wicket each.
