Shubman Gill is in the form of his life and is getting better in every game. Regardless of the format he plays, the class, temperament and technique are always there. He is giving India a quick start and playing an attacking role right from the start. He has also shown the ability to anchor the innings.
After the third ODI against New Zealand in Indore where Gill scored another century, he was asked by Star Sports to choose between Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar.
The Gujarat Titans opener gave a calm and composed reply, “I think Virat bhai because…Sachin sir is why I started playing cricket because my father was a huge fan of him. When he retired, I was too young to understand cricket. When When I started to understand cricket a little more, I would say Virat Bhai because I learned a lot from him as a batsman.
He was adjudged Player of the Series in the recently concluded India-New Zealand ODI series. But not too long ago there were doubts about his place in India’s first XI in ODIs, but he has now put those doubts to bed after delivering consistent results.
After winning the player of the series award, the Indian opener said, “It feels good to perform throughout the series. My approach didn’t change after the double century (208 in the first ODI). It’s about starting one and converting every game if possible. I try to play according to the situation and condition rather than looking at my score. Our bowlers did a good job and bowled really well on this wicket because at one point it looked like it could go either way.”
