Thursday, Good luck Gill Became the youngest batsman to score a double century in ODI cricket and the fifth Indian to reach the landmark. Gill’s storming 208 helped India beat New Zealand by 12 runs.
Before Gill, there were only four Indian batsmen on the list, including legends Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Rohit Sharma And Ishan Kishan.
Kishan recently made it to the list when India toured Bangladesh, as he touched the 200-run mark at the age of 24 and became the youngest cricketer to score a double century. But with his latest exploits, Gill broke the record and achieved the feat at just 23.
Despite his dismissal, Kishan did not get much chance in the team and some former cricketers questioned this. The wicketkeeper-batsman was benched throughout the ODI series Sri Lanka Until he finally got a chance in the first match against New Zealand.
Kishan was included in the playing eleven as a substitute KL Rahul, who is unavailable for the series due to some personal reasons. In the series opener, Kishan was dropped to bat at no. 4.
Now, a video has been released by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) showing Rohit and Ishan welcoming Shubman to the 200 club after the win over New Zealand.
The conversation started with Rohit praising Gill for his game and Ishaan asking about the Punjab boy’s pre-match routine. In more videos the Indian captain welcomes Gill to the 200 club.
At the end of the video, Rohit is heard telling Ishan why he hasn’t played three matches after scoring a double ton in the 50-over format, to which he replies, “Bhai you are the captain”. And soon after Ishaan’s witty reaction, all the three in the frame burst into laughter.
“Ishan, Yar Apne played 3 matches in 200 forest. (Ishan, despite scoring 200 runs you have not even played three matches)” said Rohit.
“Bhaiya Kapten To Aap Ho (Brother, You Are The Captain)” Kisan replied.
