Indian cricket team won the 1st ODI in a hard fought match against New Zealand in the 1st ODI. The Men in Blue won the match by 12 runs with Shubman Gill’s double sen proving decisive. Suryakumar Yadav scored 31 runs off 26 balls in which he hit 4 fours. He comes into the team as KL Rahul is unavailable due to personal reasons.
New Zealand will regret not getting off to a good start in the power-play overs. Management should use Darryl Mitchell as a finisher instead of batting at No.4 position where he has been in all kinds of trouble.
Kapil Dev on selectors and Suryakumar Yadav
Kapil Dev was in touch with Gulf News and was quite furious with the selection panel. “I think we should leave it to the cricket board to decide what they (selectors) are planning. Many cricketers are coming so everyone should get a chance to play. What I can see from the outside is that they will have three teams – one each for T20Is, ODIs and Tests. That way, you can get a bigger pool.” Kapil Dev said.
“Having said that, they should have a set team for a certain period of time. You can change an odd person I understand. But if you have the man of the match (Suryakumar Yadav) dropped the next day and someone else comes in, we as cricketers don’t understand that. she added.
Concern for India
Even as India managed to post a mammoth total of 350 runs, no batsman except Shubman Gill managed to score a half-century. Skipper Rohit Sharma will be utterly disappointed as he cannot convert his start which has started to hurt the team now.
The management may consider bringing back Omran Malik in the playing XI as he not only has perfect pace but also bowls impeccable line and length. Rohit Sharma said that Shardul provides batting depth for the team. The Men in Blue will be well aware that New Zealand will be ready for any challenge.
