Young batsman Sarfraz Khan has been left out of the Test squad for the first two matches of the upcoming four-match series against Australia for the Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2023. In an exclusive conversation with News18 Cricket Next, Abhinav Mukund said that Sarfaraz should be given a chance in the Test team as he has performed well in domestic cricket in the last three years. He cites the example of Jaydev Unadkat, who was drafted into the team after sensational Ranji Trophy performances in the last two or three years.
“I don’t think so. I think Sarfraz should stay. Let’s get the point straight. I think Sarfraz has done enough to earn a place in the Indian team. But, if you look at the Ranji performance in this respect, yes. But if you Jaydev looks at Unadkat, they brought him into the team after the sensational Ranji Trophy in the last two-three years. The 25-year-old has scored 556 runs in six matches with three centuries and a half-century at an average of 111.20 in the ongoing Ranji Trophy edition. He was the highest run-scorer in the 2021-22 Ranji season with 982 runs in just 9 innings at an impressive average of 122.75.
