Hardik Pandya says he got goosebumps when Shubman Gill scored a double century

Indian batsman Shubman Gill has made his unprecedented headlines Double century in the first ODI against New Zealand Wednesday at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

Star all-rounder Hardik Pandya hardly took time to say, “It was the best innings I have seen in my life. If it’s not a double century, it will still be one of the best innings.”

As a reason, Pandya highlighted Gill’s ease while playing shots around the park. “I don’t really get goosebumps. But when he got the double century, I got goosebumps,” Pandya further praised.

Master Virat Kohli also had a lot to say about Gill. He termed Tarun’s innings as an “outstanding one” noting that no other Indian batsman managed to cross the 40-run barrier. In fact, the next highest score was captain Rohit Sharma’s 34.

“I think he was completely in his element today. He’s shown why so many people have been saying great things about him over the years. Moreover, the 34-year-old advised Gill to create knocks and continue the rhythm in the future.

Coach Rahul Dravid refused to mince words and simply said, “Just achieving his potential. There’s more to go.”

Pacer Mohammad Siraj, who was definitely another hero of the game for his remarkable 4-wicket spell, called Gill’s knock nothing but “phenomenal”.

Spinner Yuzvendra Chahal recalled his advice to Gill before the match in his goofy style and said, “When you are batting well, you should play the full 50 overs. You can see the results.”

Young bowler Washington Sundar was also impressed and termed the innings as an “unreal knock”.

Shubman Gill’s sensational knock was laced with 19 fours and 9 maximums. Notably, the right-handed batsman hit three back-to-back sixes to bring up his double century.

With a massive innings, Gill broke several records. He became the fastest Indian batsman to complete 1000 runs in One Day Internationals.

The 23-year-old is also the youngest cricketer to breach the 200-run mark. Moreover, his 208 is the highest individual score by an Indian batsman against the Kiwis in 50-over cricket after Sachin Tendulkar’s 186.
