It was a huge week for many Calgary Flames prospects. The Calgary Wranglers stole the show this week, reeling off four straight wins. Dustin Wolf may have won the save of the year award with one of his stops this week. Flames prospects have four teams ranked in the CHL’s top ten this week, with Flames skaters among the top players on those teams. There’s a lot to get into this week with a dirty goal from a top prospect, let’s jump right into it!
Welcome to the TWC Calgary Flames Prospects Update. Each week, we’ll take a dive into how the Flames’ prospects have fared in their respective leagues. We defined a prospect as a skater who has played fewer than 65 NHL games and is under the age of 25. From all data quanthokey And Elite Prospects. We also use an NHLe calculator created by Christian Rotis (@Croatis) that is used to estimate a player’s equivalent point total in the NHL based on how they are performing in their respective leagues. The calculator combines the odds of a given league with the ease with which a player scores points to determine the NHLe.
Fire is happening
AHL
- The Wranglers went a perfect four-for-four this week, knocking off the Abbotsford Canucks three times before beating the Ontario Reigns 4-3 last night.
- Connor Jarry was the Wranglers’ best player this week, with two goals and four assists. He’s over a point-per-game this season, and has really improved his two-way game. At 6’0″ and a solid WHL product, he has a chance to earn a call-up to the Flames before the season ends.
- Ben Jones also had a huge week, with two goals and two assists. He has been an impressive addition by GM Brad Treliving since he was signed this summer. He’s under a point per game right now, but producing steadily.
- Although he didn’t put up points in the Reigns’ win, Matthew Phillips had two goals and an assist this week. He is the Wranglers leading scorer and the third leading scorer in the AHL. With all due respect to Jacob Pelletier and Walker Duhr, Phillips should be in the NHL right now.
- It was good to see Jeremy Poirier in the Wranglers lineup this week after being scratched due to poor performance. He recorded three assists this week.
- Dustin Wolf picked up three wins this week and sits with a .930 save percentage this season. He leads the league in games played, and ranks second in save percentage.
- He also made a save that could go down as the best of the season this week. Take a look here:
BCHL
- Cade Littler has no games this week.
ECHL
- A goal this week for Rory Kerins in his return to the ECHL.
- No points for Lucas Fiuke, who has been stuck on nine for weeks now. I don’t see him touring North America outside of this season.
- Dani Chechelev is third in the league in games played, but sits 30th in save percentage. It took a step forward this week, but a 0.902 save percentage isn’t much to write home about.
OHL
- No points this week for Jake Beck as Ottawa tries to get him back into the lineup. He has missed significant time this season, so expect him to take the time to reach his projected point total heading into the season.
- The 67’s rank fifth in the CHL’s top 15 this week.
QMJHL
- Cole Huckins was excellent this week as he recorded two more goals for the Sherbrooke Phoenix. He has been on a tear of late.
- Cam Kane isn’t putting up three assists for Halifax this week. Great to see him start getting on the board more often.
- Halifax and Sherbrooke were both in the CHL’s top 15 this week, ranking fourth and seventh, respectively.
WHL
- It was a huge week for the Tri-City Americans’ Parker Bell, who had four goals and an assist this week. He has been remarkably consistent throughout the season and his point totals continue to rise. He and Lucas Ciona are tied for points this season, even though Bell is short of the draft class.
- No points this week for Ciona, but his Seattle Thunderbirds are third in the CHL’s top-15 this week. They are top contenders for a spot in this year’s Memorial Cup.
- Cole Jordan will be out for the rest of the season.
NCAA
- A goal this week for Matt Coronato at Harvard, and what a goal it was. Take a look here:
- No points for Boltman, Koumontzis or Knoedler, though Koumontzis slotted in on defense this week for a very depleted ASU squad. Very strange.
Europe
- Toppie Ronnie is slotting as Tappa’s 13th forward this week, but has not scored any points. That’s not surprising given his limited minutes, but it’s better for him to stay with the big club at this point.
- No points for William Stromgren. He slotted a good amount on the second line this week.

- Connor Jarry: 41.8 (same)
