AJ Styles appeared at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17

WWE Superstar AJ Styles almost appeared at the recent NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17 event alongside Karl Anderson.

During that event on January 4 in Tokyo, Karl Anderson defended the Never Openweight Championship against Tama Tonga. WWE and NJPW came to an agreement that allowed Anderson to wrestle at the event as he did not return to WWE for long.

Fightful Select reported that Anderson’s friend AJ Styles (who is part of Anderson & Gallows’ OC in WWE) has also been discussed as possibly appearing at Wrestle Kingdom 17.

According to NJPW’s Rocky Romero, Styles was in favor of appearing and would have reportedly stayed at the event if he had his way. Styles however recently suffered an ankle injury during a WWE live event on December 29th and is currently out of action for several months.

It is still unclear whether or not WWE would have sanctioned Styles’ appearance.
