“A knock under key pressure” – Twitter hails Devon Conway as he slams an exceptional ODI century vs India in Indore

The 31-year-old is a left-handed opening batsman for the New Zealand national cricket team Devon Conway On Tuesday, January 24, scored an exceptional century in the third ODI against the Indian national cricket team.

The third ODI between the teams is a dead rubber contest as India have already sealed the series by winning the first two matches in Hyderabad and Raipur respectively. The dead rubber match is currently underway at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore.

New Zealand won the toss and invited India to bat first. The decision did not bode well for the team as India posted a mammoth total of 385/9 on the board in 50 overs.

The Blackcaps, however, were not too disappointed with the score posted by India as at one point it looked like 400-plus was easily possible, but thanks to the Kiwi bowlers, who picked up wickets at regular intervals in the middle overs to wind India up. Below 400.

Chasing the target, New Zealand got off to the worst possible start as they lost Finn Allen for nil in the first over. However, Devon Conway batted superbly alongside Henry Nicholls and did not allow his side to sink further.

Devon Conway, who scored a combined 17 runs in the first two ODIs against India, batted brilliantly on the batting-friendly surface and looked comfortable against the Indian bowling attack. He touched the milestone of half century in 41 balls. Also, Devon Conway made 106 off 87 balls with Henry Nicholls before being dismissed for 42 in the 15th over, bowled by Kuldeep Yadav.

In the 22nd over, Conway was seen struggling with cramps as he hit the non-striker’s edge while trying to take a single off the 4th delivery of the over.

However, he battled the cramp and brought up his century by hitting back-to-back sixes off Yuzvendra Chahal in the first two balls of the 24th over. Devon Conway completed his remarkable century in just 71 balls with 7 fours and 7 sixes.

Conway, who recently scored a stunning ODI century on the tour of Pakistan, became the second-fastest Kiwi batsman to score a century against India in one-day internationals. He surpassed Jesse Ryder, who scored a 72-ball ton against the Men in Blue. The left-handed batsman is just behind Michael Bracewell’s 57-ball century in the first ODI of the series.
